“As a curly that has been through the ringer when it comes to finding the right hair products, I LOVE sharing when I find a new brand that works for me. So, meet Hairstory.”
⏤ Kiana Tipton, Naturally Curly
“The results are wild. My long hair air-dries perfectly, with no “squeaky” texture. It is shiny and falls in loose waves, like it did when I was a kid. I don’t need to blow-dry it. My chronic flaky scalp is gone forever. I customarily wash my hair every three days. With New Wash, once a week. When friends remark that my hair looks nice, it’s fun to say, “I haven’t shampooed in six months.” Which is technically accurate.”
⏤ Molly Young, NY Magazine
“In my five months using [New Wash], way more people have taken notice of the increased lustre in my hair. I’ve personally noticed a new thickness and ease of movement that I’ve never had — neither before nor during my platinum days.”
⏤ Alana Massey, Racked
“It’s rare when a zeitgeist-rattling beauty destination opens. We’ve seen our share of glitzy salons with rococo mirrors and complimentary champagne, exclusive celebrity spas with gadgets and gizmos aplenty […] But the reason a downtown New York City studio called Hairstory became an immediate cult sensation and championed by beauty editors is thanks to an artistic commitment frequently compared to Andy Warhol’s Factory.”
⏤ Katie Becker, Allure
“My life = changed. New Wash is the most incredible blend of non-toxic, nourishing, but somehow also cleansing ingredients that acts as a very gentle cleanser, but also deeply moisturizes your hair. I don’t understand how it works, but I’m super into it.”
⏤ Laurel Pantin, Coveteur
“I am positively baffled by how shiny, hydrated, unoily and thick and lustrous my hair feels post New Wash. [...] I’m so nervous about running out, I’m going to join the Fan Club. The texture reminds me of my hair pre-coloring and pre-over heat styling. I’m telling you, friends. New Wash is a veritable time machine. Get into it.”
⏤ Amber Katz, Rouge18
“It wasn’t until I gave up traditional shampoo and switched to New Wash that I got the glossy, frizz-free waves of my dreams.”
⏤ Victoria Hoff, Byrdie
“Focused on individuality, colour and a liberating, non-conventional approach to hair, the results are artful and inspiring, accompanied by an imperfect standard of beauty that we can get behind.”
⏤ Wallpaper*
“I tried every shampoo and conditioner combo trying to resuscitate my sad, sad hair, and then I tried Hairstory New Wash and all was right with the world.”
⏤ Rachel Krause, StyleCaster
"I was doubtful a monogamous hair product relationship was for me, until I met Hairstory New Wash."
⏤ Erin Lukas, InStyle Magazine
A LETTER TO HAIRDRESSERS
The salon industry is undergoing unprecedented upheaval and change is happening faster than most people either realize or are ready to acknowledge. The rise of the smartphone enables booking appointments, charging for services, and essentially managing an entire business for very little cost.
If there was any salon profit, it came from retail sales, which are now under at least as much pressure as service revenues. Every professional retail line is for sale on Amazon with free delivery, and half of them are selling directly to Amazon. Consumers are still buying the first bottle in salon based on their hairdresser’s recommendation, but they are replenishing online. It’s a massive change in consumer behavior.
Putting that all together, I believe the salon as we know it is going to be extinct in ten years. But we have created a new way forward to support hairdressers as they adapt to the new economy. And that is precisely why we say we’ve dedicated ourselves to helping people rethink everything about hair in a world where the old rules don’t apply.
We do things differently at Hairstory, from how we wash hair to how we sell products. And that’s why we have officially joined 1% for the Planet as a contributing company to qualified charitable organizations. We have committed to donating 1% of our proceeds from sales of New Wash bottles to help those working on water-related issues.
1% for the Planet is a global network of businesses, nonprofits and individuals working together for a healthier planet. They bring dollars and doers together to accelerate smart environmental giving, raising more than $175 million to date. Learn more at www.onepercentfortheplanet.org
