Until midnight on April 22, Hairstory will donate 20% of proceeds from New Wash Club memberships created here to the 1% for the Planet parent organization.

We joined 1% for the Planet at the start of 2018 because we believe in their mission to redirect 1% of sales to local, grassroots organizations that work hard to protect the Earth. And since water is elemental to hairdressing, our customers help allocate donations by voting on five water-warriors each quarter, including:

Association for the Protection of Val Mastallone
Atlantic White Shark Conservancy

Revive your hair and restore your scalp with a new kind of cleanser: New Wash is not your average all-in-one: It cleans, conditions, detangles and repairs – no conditioner needed! New Wash cleans with a combination of natural essential oils and gentle saturated cleansers – including Sunflower seed, Jojoba seed, and Evening Primrose oils to do the work safely and gently. Color stays longer, curls take shape, scalps stay calm, and fighting frizz is finished. Finally, free yourself from damage by shampoo! Expect the hair of your dreams: Shiny, smooth, soft and healthy. One more thing: New Wash is biodegradable so you can feel better about what goes down the drain.

Intelligent Ingredients: Aloe Vera Juice (the second ingredient on the list after water) blended with oils of Jojoba, Sunflower, Evening Primrose, and Peppermint are the basis of the cleansing complex. A mix of plant-derived fatty alcohols moisturize and lubricate, and Keratin and Horsetail extract nourish and strengthen.

Cleansing: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil.

Conditioning: Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Stearyl Alcohol, Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Equisetum Hiemale Extract, Behentrimonium Methosulfate.

Other: Keratin and Hydrolyzed Keratin, Rosa Centifolia Flower Water, Menthyl Lactate.

Other non-key: Gluconolactone, Panthenol, Sodium Benzoate, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Isopropyl Alcohol, Citric Acid, Ceteareth-20, Trisodium HEDTA, Calcium Gluconate, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopherol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Alcohol.

Fragrance: Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Leaf Oil, Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Myroxylon Pereirae (Balsam Peru) Oil, Guaiacum Officinale Wood Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Oil, Citronellol, Geraniol, Linalool.

Never use shampoo again. That’s right, we said never. Add conditioner to your never list too. We knew there was a better and safer way to wash hair, so we created New Wash, a sulfate-free, detergent-free, paraben-free, nasty-ingredient-free shampoo (and conditioner) alternative. What’s so bad about shampoo/conditioner anyway? 90% of shampoos contain detergent – or soap – and nobody should use soap on their hair or scalp. It’s drying. It strips. It ravages the natural moisture barrier. And conditioner isn’t much better; the majority contain silicone, which in this type of product is a no-no. New Wash on the other hand was created to respect your strands and your scalp and clean gently and effectively while conditioning at the same time. It contains lots of good stuff, including essential oils, Aloe Vera, natural preservatives and a natural fragrance. So out with the old, and in with the New Wash for soothed scalps, strong strands, and hair in a healthy, happy place.

Using New Wash is very different from a foaming shampoo experience and is much more like applying conditioner. As long as you coat hair and scalp evenly and rinse really thoroughly, it’s easy as pie (pie is far more complicated).

• New Wash will not foam. It is thick, creamy, and similar to conditioner.
• New Wash needs to be distributed evenly and worked through thoroughly to do its job.
• Apply New Wash generously from scalp to the ends. Make sure that it comes into contact with everything that needs cleaning.
• Use your fingers (or our shower brush) to massage the scalp extremely well; this helps New Wash get evenly distributed while helping to activate the cleansing ingredients.
• Rinse really really (really) well; Our shower brush is also super helpful here too!
• You should be able to run your fingers through wet hair without using conditioner!
• If you feel your hair needs more love, just repeat. It’s okay; you can’t overuse New Wash.

Economic activity always places a burden on the environment, and when we started Hairstory, we wanted to minimize our impact. When people discover the magic of New Wash, they make a commitment to living shampoo-free, and we knew that replenishment sales would be significant. So we created an option for dedicated customers to refill durable canisters with pouches for more convenience and less waste.

While pouches like these – made of multiple layers of various material – are not as recyclable as typical plastic containers, they do have other significant environmental benefits: Ounce for ounce, their carbon footprint for manufacture and transit is 77% smaller than bottles, and they generate 83% less post-consumer waste.

We are currently testing new pouches that will be 100% recyclable and will be among the first beauty companies in the world to offer them. Later this year, we plan to switch all New Wash products to pouches, eliminating plastic bottles altogether. Eventually, we plan to move away from plastic bottles entirely and become a 100% refillable beauty company.

Each New Wash pouch is made with less than half the plastic of a typical bottle. That means a reduction of post-consumer packaging waste by 92% and carbon emissions by 82%.

The New Wash Club is our subscription service that ensures you always have it on hand. Choose how often you want to receive a 20-ounce pouch to refill an aluminum canister included empty with your first delivery, along with a 3-ounce travel bottle so you can always take New Wash with you. Shipping is always free. You can change your Club frequency, suspend or cancel at any time (but we have a feeling you won’t want to).
