How long should I go without washing my hair and scalp?
When it comes down to how often you should cleanse your hair, there is not one universal rule of thumb that applies to all hair types. Generally, to maintain healthy hair it is recommended that a cleanser be applied to those lovely locks every other day or every 2-3 days. To keep hair soft, smooth and frizz-free, use only sulfate-free shampoos to prevent damage to hair follicles.
Does co-washing and hair cleansing clean your hair?
Both co-washing and hair cleansing are recommended alternatives to using typical shampoo and conditioner to wash hair. To partake in co-washing, simply ditch the shampoo and solely use a cleansing cream conditioner. Due to the presence of parabens and detergents in hair shampoos, many people prefer to skip this step and use conditioner as a cleansing agent in their hair care routine. Warning: Conditioner only washing doesn’t actually clean your hair of the dirt and product build up.
Unlike co-washing products, hair cleansing products are essentially sulfate-free shampoos and a cleansing conditioner in one that actually cleans your hair without stripping it of its natural oils. Compared to detergent-based hair care products that are focused on creating a frothy and sudsy consistency similar to soap, hair cleansing products like New Wash have a creamy consistency and are formulated using naturally derived ingredients to gently wash one's scalp and hair follicles.
What is no poo hair?
No poo hair is a method of washing hair using products free of harsh chemicals and detergents that strip the essential oils produced by the scalp. Instead of relying on shampoo products, the no poo method calls on natural ingredients such as apple cider vinegar and baking soda as alternative cleansers. This method is great for the adventurous spirit that wants to create their own hair care products from scratch!
